Batam Botanical Garden Masterplan
Location : Batam, Riau, Indonesia
Area : 85.553 sqm
Project year : 2020
Association : Suryawinata-Heinzelmann Architecture and Urbanism (SHAU)
(in collaboration with Studio Cilaki 45 and Indonesian Ministry of Housing and Public Works)
Batam Botanical Garden is one of the tourist attractions located in Batam Island, Indonesia. Ministry of Housing and Public Works has an idea to redesign the botanical garden because the current condition of the botanical garden does not have many magnets to attract tourists visiting the garden. It remains important because it can increase regional income through the improvement of the tourism industry.
The new design concept of Batam Botanical Garden allows the garden to have various activities in approximately 85,000 sqm. The garden is divided into four zones: welcoming zone, recreation zone, education zone and conservation zone. Each zone is included with a unique architectural building which is not just functional, but also could be a tourist attraction. Some of these are visitor centre, musholla, observation towers, labyrinth garden, and research pavilions. In addition to this, there is also a food court that is provided and designed to allow Batam’s local culinary businesses to sell and serve local cuisines for visitors.
