100 Resilient Cities (100RC) is a network of cities initiated by Rockefeller Foundation to help cities around the world to be a resilient city. 100RC defines urban resilience (or resilient city) as “the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within a city to survive, adapt, and grow no matter what kinds of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience.” In Indonesia, there are two cities that are part of the 100RC network, which are Semarang and Jakarta.

My involvement was during the program implementation in Jakarta. During the period of 2018-2019, Jakarta was in the second phase of the program implementation, which focused on the development of city resilient strategy. At this phase, I was part of a strategic partner team who has the responsibility to give technical assistance to Jakarta provincial government to develop its resilience strategy.
Jakarta resilience strategy relies on three foundations: ‘Well-prepared Jakarta’, ‘Healthy Jakarta’ and ‘Connected Jakarta’. These three foundations are the translation of Jakarta’s vision upon resilience city, as “ a city which provides equal opportunity for all its citizens to live safe, healthy, prosperous, and happy through public service and innovation.” The first principle, ‘Well-prepared Jakarta’, focuses on the promotion of the culture of readiness, development of coordination systems both before, during, and after the disaster and reduced levels of vulnerability in various regions in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the second principle, ‘Healthy Jakarta’, encourages stakeholders to fasten their efforts to provide public services, such as clean water, wastewater , public sanitation and waste management. The last principle, ‘Connected Jakarta’, departs the spirit to improve urban mobility in the city as well as communication and information infrastructure.
