C40 Cities Climate Leaderships
Location : Jakarta, Indonesia
Project year : 2019
Association : Ruang Waktu Knowledge Hub for Sustainable [Urban] Development
(in collaboration with Jakarta Konsultindo, Buro Happold, C40, and Jakarta Provincial Government)
C40 is a network of the world’s megacities committed to addressing climate change. C40 supports cities to collaborate effectively, share knowledge and drive meaningful, measurable and sustainable action on climate change. Around the world, C40 Cities connects 94 of the world’s greatest cities to take bold climate action, leading the way towards a healthier and more sustainable future. Among these 94 cities, Jakarta is part of this network.

The involvement of this project was at the first of four stages of project implementation in Jakarta. C40 network helps Jakarta to develop its climate actions and these actions are going to be integrated into the city planning document. The project lasts for approximately two years, in which the first stage mainly focuses on the preliminary assessment of climate change impacts to the city and the status as well as the effectiveness of ongoing climate actions in the city. The second stage seeks which sectors that have the most contribution to carbon emission production in the city. In addition to that, a tool to measure carbon emission is also developed. This tool is made for the city government to monitor the carbon emission even after the project is over. Then the last stage is dedicated to develop climate actions that are effective for each city.
