New Capital of Indonesia Design Idea

“Upakrama Nagari Kencana” is a name deducted from the Sanskrit language, which has a meaning: “The Beginning of Prosperous Country”. This name is chosen as a hope for Indonesia, in which the capital relocation can be a beginning step towards a prosperous future of the country-100 years from its Independence Day, in 2045. It envisions the new capital as a world-class city that can attract global talents. This project is a competition entry for the new capital of Indonesia design competition which took place by the end of 2019.
The concept of this new idea is envisioned from several design pillars, among others:

Typical Indonesian Local Identity
The architecture and urban design of the new capital represent the nation’s sole ideology, Pancasila, enforce unity in diversity.

Sustainable Development
The new capital of Indonesia is built and managed with sustainable development principles starting from the provision of its public services, such as energy, waste management, water management, sanitation, and urban mobility.

Smart City
The new capital will make use of technological advancement to manage the city also improve the quality of life if each inhabitant.

Transit-Oriented Compact City
The new capital is designed with transit-oriented development and supported by urban growth boundaries that can avoid undesired sprawl urban growth.

Disaster Resilience
The new capital’s design also considers mitigation and adaptation actions in term of disasters: flood and forest fires.

Support Local Economy
The design also supports the growth of local businesses through urban farming spaces and hawker centres provision in downtown areas.
