Summary
Online ojek or online motorcycle taxi ride-hailing service has a rapid growth in Indonesia, since its first appearance in 2014. This service has a huge demand, especially in big cities, to muddle through daily heavy traffic congestion. It is easy to use because it is online application based, relatively cheap, and convenient. The rapid growth of online ojek usage has certainly an impact on urban settings. There are at least two affected aspects due to its phenomenon, which are mobility and spatial, and social aspects. In the case of mobility, it is clear that online ojek currently serves as an alternative mode of transportation for people who live in big cities, even though there have not been any clear regulations in regards to this matter. It is because online ojek runs upon the basis of ride-hailing service; the drivers ride their own vehicle.

Speaking of spatial aspects, shortage or in many cases, absence of proper shelter in many high-demand locations within the city gives undesirable impacts. Firstly, the usurpation of online ojek drivers on the road nearby, high-demand locations, such as train stations, shopping malls, offices, and apartment buildings, often causes traffic jam. In addition to this, there are confusions come from both the drivers and the passengers regarding the pick-up and drop-off locations.

Depart from this argument, this publication is initiated and would like to offer a new typology of a public facility, which is online ojek shelter, to accommodate the phenomenon of ride-hailing service growth as well as the transformation of urban mobility. The publication takes Jakarta, as the pilot case. However, the typology is pretty much useable in other cities in Indonesia and Asia.

Furthermore, the publication consists of three main parts. First part presents the underlying arguments why this new typology of online ojek shelter shall in place in urban areas, including which regulations that could serve as the basis of its provision. Second part discusses all aspects that shall be considered in providing, managing, and maintaining this facility. In addition, technical guidance is also provided in this part. Third part, which is also the last part, gives recommendations upon different schemes that can be done for all of the relevant stakeholders to collaborate in providing, managing, and maintaining this facility in order to be sustainable. At the moment, the full publication is only available in Bahasa Indonesia.
