Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) is a methodology that was developed by UNESCO towards more integrated heritage management in the middle of the rapid transformation of cities and environment due to global and local issues, such as climate change and urbanization among others. It involves a good practice in the planning process, such as participatory planning and stakeholder consultations on what values to protect for transmission to future generations and to determine the attributes that carry these values. In addition, HUL encourages appropriate partnerships and local management frameworks for each of the identified projects for conservation and development, as well as to develop mechanisms for the coordination of the various activities between different actors, both public and private.

Muntok is located in Bangka Belitung province, a rather new established province among other provinces in Indonesia. Bangka Belitung province was legalised as a new independent province in November 2000, through an establishment of the new regulation: Un- dang-Undang (UU) No. 27 the Year 2000. In addition, Muntok is the capital city of Bangka Barat Municipality, which is located at the western part of the province.
Muntok is also known by the In- Indonesians, as a producer of tin. It became a centre of tin mining in the coun-
try during the Dutch colonial era in the 19th century. Due to this advanced mining activity, Muntok was elevated into the capital city of Bangka Municipality for the first time in 1912 and it became the location of tin mining industry headquarter since then until the 1950s. After the enormous national reformation in 1997, Muntok was established as one of Heritage Cities Network (Level B) in Indonesia. Aligned with this, a heritage preservation committee is also formed to maintain cultural heritages of Muntok. The committee is aimed to support local governments in maintaining historic buildings and sites located in the area.

The training is aimed to make cultural heritage preservation strategy based on the HUL approach. Several following issues will be discussed during the training: city potentials identification, city creative economy potentials identification, integrated waterfront landscape, and stakeholder network identification towards collaboration in heritage management.
